Hours of work for this position are 6:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. (flex schedule)
JOB TITLE: Custodial Trainer
JOB CLASSIFICATION: Custodian IV - MACP
REPORTS TO: Supervisor of Custodial Services
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Supervisor of Custodial Services, this non-supervisory position assists with planning, developing, implementing, and conducting training and safety programs to ensure custodial staff are in compliance with District policy and procedures, and local, state, and federal standards. Depending on assignment, fills open day or swing shift custodial positions to ensure coverage and provides guidance to ensure understanding of district needs. May be assigned a shift that includes Saturday and/or Sunday.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist Supervisor of Custodial Services in assessing current job standards and training of custodial staff in order to maintain high standards of cleanliness.
- Conduct continuing training programs and workshops assuring compliance with laws and regulations and maintaining district cleaning standards.
- Conduct regular inspections and observations of district schools and support sites.
- Prepare and maintains a variety of records and reports related to standards and training.
- Provide coverage for open day or swing shift positions, as necessary.
- Coordinate weekend custodial coverage; open all facilities for weekend use if assigned a weekend shift.
- Assist the Supervisor of Custodial Services with evaluating cleaning products and equipment.
- Respond to general requests, trouble calls, and attending to emergencies for the purpose of maintaining a safe and orderly work and learning environment.
- Perform general cleaning services for the purpose of meeting health standards and codes and maintaining a clean and orderly work environment. Responsibilities and duties include: cleaning and sanitizing restrooms, restroom fixtures, and shower rooms; emptying waste baskets and other trash containers; cleaning white boards, furniture, walls, baseboards, wall/ceiling fixtures; sweeping, mopping, stripping, and refinishing floors; vacuuming, shampooing, and spot cleaning carpets; washing windows and mirrors.
- Check buildings daily for the purpose of securing the facilities and identifying repair needs, vandalism, making sure the facilities are secure, and for any other problems or needs; maintain building security when facilities are not in use by checking for unlocked doors and unauthorized occupants and supporting Sonitrol security calls. Report damage, repair needs, and concerns to the building principal and Custodial Supervisor.
- Supports warehouse in maintaining an inventory of custodial supplies for the purpose of working efficiently and responding to customer needs in a timely manner; performs warehouse and mail deliveries, as necessary.
- Provide technical support and feedback to all building custodians; inspects quality and quantity of work.
- Maintain confidentiality in all work assignments for the purpose of maintaining trust and a secure environment.
- Maintain consistent attendance at assigned worksite and works hours specified.
- Comply with District and department policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS; MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:
- Thorough knowledge of institutional housekeeping and custodial methods in a large, multiple facility organization.
- Knowledge of and ability to use equipment and supplies used in the care of institutional buildings and fixtures.
- Knowledge of safety standards, rules and regulations relating to custodial operations in school facilities.
- Knowledge of current OSPI and Department of Health regulations.
- Skill and ability to communicate verbally and in writing with all individuals professionally and courteously.
- Ability to initiate and implement industrial safety procedures.
- Ability to exercise discretion and maintain trust and confidentiality.
- Ability to develop positive, amenable relationships with staff, students, and the public.
- Ability to perform professionally while under pressure and tight timelines.
- Skill and ability to follow and give written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to successfully utilize and operate a variety of job-related equipment.
- Ability to operate basic computer systems including work order and inventory web-based software, Microsoft programs, Kronos, etc. to perform general tasks.
- Ability to meet the demands of the position including flexibility in meeting deadlines and work varying hours that may include nights and/or weekends.
- Knowledge and ability to perform basic math, including calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions, percentages, and/or ratios.
- Ability to perform physical work both indoors and outdoors to include walking, standing, bending, and lifting.
- Ability to read and follow instructions and maps,.
- Skill and abilities of effective organization and efficiency.

- Physical ability to perform manual work associated with custodial duties including regularly lifting 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds to empty garbage, lifting and moving furniture, equipment, etc.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Any combination equivalent to completion of high school.
- Three (3) years of experience or training in custodial or related fields.
- Valid Washington Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- Previous experience with custodial and/or maintenance of a school facility preferred.
- Previous experience with facilitating trainings and run sheets to OSPI standards.
