Description

This is a 0.4 FTE continuing School Pyschologist position with the location TBD.

JOB TITLE:  PSYCHOLOGIST

 

JOB SUMMARY:   Evaluate students for special education eligibility, assist in developing appropriate program(s) for eligible students, and support instructional staff in providing effective instructional programs for identified students with special needs.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Participates as a team member with responsibility for identification, eligibility, and placement of special education and section 504 students. 
  • Assists in the development of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Section 504 plans for eligible students; and modifications of instructional programs for accommodations to meet individual student needs.
  • Assists instructional staff in ensuring regulatory compliance for special education and Section 504.
  • Participates with other staff to develop effective, positive techniques for improving student behavior. 
  • Consults with parents, staff, students, and outside agency personnel regarding mental health, behavioral, social/emotional, developmental appropriateness, educational concerns and means of intervention for student benefit.
  • Facilitates and participates in various meetings including school and department, manifestation determination, eligibility, evaluation and placement.
  • Provides crisis intervention assistance. 
  • Plan and provide clear and intentional focused instruction based upon individual student IEP goals using state standards, subject matter content and district curriculum.
  • Recognize individual student learning needs and develop strategies to address those needs for the purpose of promoting individual achievement.
  • Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment for the purpose of promoting effective student behavior and success.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and school community for the purpose of fostering student success and achievement, and meeting special education laws and policies.
  • Participate in and facilitate various meetings for the purpose of addressing student goals and needs, and to meet laws and policies.  Meetings may include school and department, manifestation determination, eligibility, evaluation and placement.
  • Maintain and process accurate records/documents as required by State and Federal regulations and district policy.
  • Direct the work of assigned classified staff.
  • Implement and comply with District policies and the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Maintain consistent attendance and conform to regular work hours specified under contract.
  • Fulfill other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS; MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:

  • Ability to assess and evaluate student progress and achievement and conduct compliant evaluations for special education.
  • Ability to promote and encourage learning.
  • Ability to facilitate meetings and promote consensus.
  • Skills in technical writing related to student records and reports.
  • Knowledge of applicable Washington State and federal rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of subject matter/course content relevant to assignment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of child development.
  • Ability to effectively meet developmental needs of students.
  • Ability to assess and evaluate student progress and achievement.
  • Knowledge of and skills in using effective instructional strategies and practices.
  • Knowledge and skill in designing and conducting specialized instruction, remediation, and evaluation.
  • Ability to adapt and modify techniques and materials for effectiveness.
  • Skills and abilities in organization, time management and recordkeeping.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Ability to interact positively and effectively with parents, students, staff and administrators.
  • Ability to effectively communicate in verbal and written formats with a variety of constituents.
  • Ability to operate technology devices and specific software programs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability and commitment to strengthen job-related competencies.

EDUCATION: 

  • Valid Washington State Educational Staff Associate certificate as a psychologist.
  • Valid Washington State driver’s license required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Successful and recent experience as a psychologist in a school setting.
  • Student cultural and economic diversity experience, preferred.
