Description

We are seeking a limited number of qualified individuals for our Emergency Substitute Teacher roster for 7.75 hours per day.  Emergency substitute teachers are utilized when we are experiencing a daily substitute shortage.  To be considered, you must have a four year college degree and have experience working with children.  The 2019-2020 daily rate of pay for emergency substitute teachers is $180 for a full-day and early release day; $90 for a half-day.

 

Approved candidates will need to complete background check (fingerprints) and apply for state emergency substitute certification.  After receiving clearance and certification, which may take up to one month, candidates will be eligible to sub when the district is facing a substitute shortage.

 

Successful candidates are required to attend Emergency Substitute Orientation on Thursday, January 23, 2020 from 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. at the Mukilteo School District Office.

 

 

JOB TITLE:  EMERGENCY SUBSTITUTE TEACHER

 

JOB SUMMARY:  Deliver a quality instructional program based primarily upon teacher lesson plans as well as state standards, district curriculum, and effective instruction to students with diverse learning needs.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide clear and intentional focused instruction using provided lesson plans, state standards, subject matter content and district curriculum.
  • Recognize individual student learning needs and utilize strategies to address those needs for the purpose of promoting individual achievement.
  • Implement effective teaching practices for the purpose of facilitating achievement for each student.
  • Use student data for the purpose of assessing student progress, modifying instruction, and improving student learning.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and school community for the purpose of fostering student success and achievement.
  • Foster and manage a safe, positive learning environment for the purpose of promoting effective student behavior and success.
  • Provide information/records including student progress to classroom teacher and other personnel as appropriate.
  • Implement and comply with District policies and the Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Fulfill other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

JOB REQUIREMENTS; MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include:

  • Knowledge of and skills in using various formative and summative assessments  .
  • Ability to effectively address a wide range of academic and social needs including at-risk, cultural diversity, English language learners, and special education students.
  • Skills in effective  lessons based upon state standards, district curriculum and student needs.
  • Skills in managing and promoting positive student behavior.
  • Knowledge and understanding of elementary and secondary school philosophy.
  • Ability to effectively meet developmental needs of students.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with others.
  • Skills in and ability to communicate effectively with others.
  • Skills and abilities in organization, time management, record keeping.
  • Ability to interact positively and effectively with parents, students, staff, and administrators.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to strengthen position-related competencies.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

  • Valid Washington State Emergency Substitute certification.
  • Four year college degree.
  • Previous experience working with children.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Student cultural and economic diversity experience, preferred.
